Two Important Questions

Our prayer for you is that after reading this information you will be able to definitively answer the question about your eternal life.

Since you took the time to address this question, it's apparent you feel being certain of eternal life is important. We couldn't agree more. May we suggest that the Bible is clear in teaching that you CAN know for certain you have eternal life? We would like to be of assistance to you as you seek assurance of eternal life.

In the book of 1 John 5:11-13, the Bible tells us, "God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life."

You see, those who believe in the Son of God, know for certain that they have eternal life. You may ask, "How can I believe in someone I've never met?"

If you're an American, although you've never met Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, or any other framers or signatories of the Constitution of the United States, you probably not only believe they existed, but you also believe in what they stood for -- life, liberty, and justice.

Jesus, the Son of God, like the framers of the American Constitution, came to offer life, liberty, and justice. The difference is that the life, liberty and justice Jesus offers is eternal.

To receive the blessings of the Constitution of the United States, you must be a citizen of the US. Citizenship is the right of all who are born to US American parents, but it is a privilege that may be obtained by one foreign born who seeks to immigrate and become a U.S. citizen.

To receive the blessings of eternal life, you must be a citizen of the Kingdom of God. Citizenship is the right of all who are spiritually born again; for those who have become children of God; for those who have been adopted into God's family through faith in Jesus Christ.

In John 1:12-13, speaking of the Son of God, the Bible says, "...all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God--children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God."

Have you become a child of God? Have you been adopted into God's family?

As you can see, it takes more than just the natural birth of human descent for you to be become a child of God. You must be born "from above;" you must be "born again".

In John 3:3, Jesus, the Son of God, himself, further explains, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

Are you born again?

By now, you may be wondering, "Just exactly what does it mean to be born again? Or, how can I be born again?"

In John 3:5-7 Jesus addressed that very issue. "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.'"

To be born again, you must

  1. admit you need a fresh start. You must admit you have failed to live up to God's standard of moral righteousness. You must acknowledge your condition , in your natural-born self is helpless to attain eternal life.
  2. recognize that God, in His perfect, infinite, justice must punish sin. That means you, as well as every person are guilty and must be punished with death, or separation from God.
  3. understand that in His perfect, infinite mercy, God does not want to punish you. Therefore, by His grace , He offers the free gift of eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
  4. realize your requirement to believe in God's only Son. Believing Jesus died for you and rose from the dead, you must invite Jesus to become Savior and Lord of your life by giving Him control -- putting Him in charge of your life.Ask Him to take control of your life. Invite Him to become Lord of your life.

When you acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of God, admit you have fallen short of God's standard of moral righteousness, believe that He died for you to pay the penalty for your sins to purchase for you a place in heaven which He offers as a free gift, then you are ready to enter into eternal life. The Bible tells us, in Revelation 3:20, that Jesus stands at the door of your heart knocking, "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me."

All you need to do is invite him into your life by faith.

You can pray this simple prayer, "Lord Jesus, I believe I have done wrong. I admit I have violated your moral standard of righteousness. I have sinned. I know you love me. Jesus, I believe you died for me. I know you are no longer dead. I believe you rose from the dead and ever live. Please forgive me for my sin. Please come into my life and take control. Be my Lord. Thank you for dying for me on the cross. Thank you for forgiving my sin. Thank you for giving me eternal life! I want to live for you from now on. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Congratulations! If you really meant the words of that prayer, you have now crossed the threshold from death to life eternal. You are now a new child of God. Truly you have been born again, born from above by the Spirit of God.

Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life." [John 5:24]

Now, what's the next step?

Newly born again believers, like naturally born babies are Baby Christians and need to eat to grow. The Word of God is your spiritual food. Eat it daily. "Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good." [1 Peter 2:2-3]
